Easy Summer Craft Ideas for Kids

Another HOT summer day finds me and the boys home with little to do. This heat wave makes it difficult to get the proper daily exercise. So we’re opting to go out for short spells. Today we’ll venture to the local reservoir in search of smooth river rocks to paint. If you’d like to try this craft with us you’ll meed the following supplies:

Rocks

Craft Paint

Paint Brushes

Water

*Newspaper, paper plates, old grocery bags, etc. (to protect your work space and art piece)

1. Take a walk in your backyard, neighborhood, local park or beach to find rocks. Look for interesting shapes and textures. I like smooth surfaces.

2. Once you’re back home clean your rocks and allow them to dry completely.

3. Choose a work area that is dry and comfortable. Then protect your work surface with one of the *items listed above.

4. Space the rocks, paints and brushes out so you can work without disturbing your masterpieces.

5. See if you can make insects, frogs, cute garden gnomes, fairy houses or whatever you can think of!

6. Once you’re finished you can display your work in mom’s (or grandma’s) garden or backyard. Or hey! Why not have your own backyard art show and invite family and friends to see it!

Ian is a huge fan of this movie. He made me take him too see it twice. So you can imagine we’re looking up all kinds of activities related to the movie. Check out this brief list of cool, Ian approved sites for kids:

1.) HP Creative Studio For Home has really cool free activities for kids. Take a look at the portrait Ian and I made this morning:

They have crafts like door hangers, stickers and bookmarks. As well as coloring pages.

2.) Oh! Here’s another great site for free coloring sheets and activities on Squidoo. It also has coloring sheets, crafts and stickers like the one below.

Toilet Paper Tube Crown

Just found a great tutorial for a super easy kids craft. This toilet paper tube crown makes for a simple project young boys can do on a lazy day. You’ll need:

1 Toilet paper tube

1 Piece of lace (or other scrap fabric)

1 Craft gem (plastic or paper)

Paint

Paint brush

Glitter glue

We woke up to 2 inches of snow this morning. What a perfect day to make Valentine’s Day crafts. We’ll get started as soon as I finish the breakfast waffles.

Wonder if I can think of something to make with left over burlap?

Lot’s of decent amateur pics for coloring.

One of the first dragon pics pages Ian and I discovered. The pics aren’t too ornate. Perfect for kids.

OK site with 12 or so pictures.

4. EduPics

Great dragon pic site! While you’re there check out the fairy tale section as well. Bookmark this one, kiddies!

5. Free Printable Coloring Pages

Great collection of simple dragon pics. Perfect for smaller kids / toddlers.

6. Phee McFaddell
Scroll through the list of of fantasy characters and crafts for dragon pics. They’re quite good.
